SabrEx In-Furrow is an ultra-low volume (1 fl. oz per acre for corn), highly concentrated and easy-to-use liquid formulation of SabrEx. SabrEx In-Furrow is often referred to as SabrEx IF.
What is the placement method for SabrEx IF?
SabrEx IF works best when applied at planting time as an In-Furrow application. When applying, you should direct into the furrow before the seed is covered and then apply SabrEx directly onto the seed in the furrow as a “pop-up” for best results.
What size screen can be used with SabrEx?
SabrEx IF will pass a 100-mesh screen without any problems, so screens up to 100 mesh are acceptable in a liquid application system.
Can SabrEx IF be mixed with starter fertilizer as a carrier instead of non-chlorinated water?
Liquid carbon-based starter fertilizers are preferred, but other low-salt starter fertilizers can also be used with SabrEx IF. Generally, if the product is safe to put directly on the seed in the seed trench, then it is also safe to use with SabrEx IF. Liquid starters that have a neutral pH and are low in both salt index and impurities should be used with SabrEx IF.
Please note, the tank mix restriction time is 12 hours, and you should batch fill to meet those needs. To avoid the tank mix restrictions, direct injection is the preferred way to deliver SabrEx IF “on-demand” with a liquid fertilizer system.
Do I need to jar-test before application?
You should always jar-test before application to ensure tank mix compatibility with SabrEx IF. SabrEx for Corn IF can be tank mixed with most recommended In-Furrow products. A compatibility or jar-test is recommended when using anything besides non-chlorinated water as the carrier.
The jar-test is the most practical way to determine the compatibility of a proposed product tank mix. We strongly suggest that a jar-test be done prior to tank mixing any ABM product. Although most products mix well, minor differences in the products can affect compatibility. Because of variance in pH, salt concentration and temperature, we recommend every batch of fluid fertilizer is tested for compatibility.
Problems to watch for when jar-testing
- Gelling or thickening
- Flake or crystal formation
- Bubbling or heating
- Extreme color changes
The above signs indicate that an undesirable reaction has taken place and the mixture is incompatible with SabrEx IF. If noticeable problems arise with a jar-test, the mixture with SabrEx IF must not be used.
Jar-test instructions: Testing SabrEx IF for compatibly with tank mixes
- Water or carrier (same you will use in the tank)
- 1-quart jar
- Small pocket scales (or something to measure small quantities of dry material)
- 10ml syringe (for measuring liquids)
- All of the products you will need added to the tank mix
Follow all label instructions on products. If indicated that certain products are incompatible, you will have to leave them out of the application. If the label indicates a different order in which to add materials, this must be followed.
Step 1: Fill your 1-quart jar with 1 pint of water or the carrier to be used (liquid fertilizer).
Step 2: Add the correct proportion of DF, WDG, WP, WSP to the water and make sure the products are well mixed.
Step 3: Add the correct proportion of liquid products – individually.
Step 4: Add the correct proportion of EC to the mix.
Step 5: Add the correct proportion of surfactants to the mix.
Step 6: Add the correct amount of plant nutrients to the mix
Step 7: Add the remaining amount of water or carrier.
Step 8: Close the 1-quart jar and mix by inverting (do not shake).
Step 9: Let set for 1 hour and observe any precipitates, layering or clumping. If an undesirable reaction has taken place, the mixture is incompatible with SabrEx IF. If problems result with a jar-test, the mixture with SabrEx IF must not be used.
This is a generic outline that should be followed when determining compatibility in the tank mix.
Storage and handling of SabrEx IF
SabrEx If is a live perishable product containing living organisms and must be treated as “alive.” For optimal results, store in a cool dry place, out of direct sunlight and with a temperature of 45-77 Fahrenheit. Additionally, be sure to mix with only dechlorinated water and do not let the product freeze.
